Sawyer is currently an undergraduate at UCSD, studying Biochemistry/Cell Biology. In addition to his studies, he’s been a member of UCSD’s competitive swim and dive team for all four years of his college career. He joined the Knight lab in August 2019, where he assists in sample processing in the wet lab; Sawyer believes that this project is integral to a comprehensive understanding of the microbiome. His research interest began while working in a microbiology lab at UCSD, where he studied the soil microbes’ effects upon plants. When not participating in research, Sawyer spends his time skiing/snowboarding and surfing.
